about

Arguably the first ever Norm Archer song, many attempts at recording this song with Pete Darwent and Rob Day in the good old days. Pete said the second verse was one of my best. The bridge and out is a highlight for me.

lyrics

A TASTE FOR SHAME

I wish I could look myself.
In the mirror until the eyes agree.
That no one ever audits me.
Handed in my closet keys.
Predate self deprecate.
Years of debt to the drunk & awkward state.
Some haven’t got the heart to try.
I wanna see them go awry.

Could I just be good enough?
The king of keeping my mouth shut.
Always time to act like all the good words don’t exist.
But if I could, I would make the choice.
To scream out of the void.
Sometimes I get sick of the sound of my own voice.
And the noise it just annoys you.

Somethings living in my minds eye.
I give it board and I don’t know why I say.
Stick around till the tea is made.
I get up and I get waylaid.
By what I saved from these times before.
Now it’s the struggle to just get out the door.
Never seem just to fall in line.
Never sin just to the pass the time.

Oh expectation beats a weary head.
To bear the thought, to see my face turn red.
And it may turn out to be just what you need.
A taste for shame is a route to fame indeed.
To waste a life, to want to lead.
